Hello,

We presently have two separate Netbackup installations. We have one in our main datacentre for our production/development backups and one in a separate datacentre for our staging environment. The separate datacentre used for staging will also be used as our Disaster Recovery site - the staging Netbackup installation will be used to restore production backups by importing from the production backup tapes. Unfortunately, this is a very slow process.

Is there a way to replicate the production/development catalog and merge it with the staging catalog (or have it on the server as a standby) so that, in the case of a disaster, we can use the production/development catalog that has been replicated to our Disaster Recovery site for restores?

Thanks,
Mark

This can be a somewhat tricky answer. If you are looking to NOT have to import all of your tapes then you should keep a full catalog backup of your production environment at the staging location. Then you would just recover the catalog at the staging site and it would then recognize all of the tapes without having to import all of them. Any backups that were performed after the catalog backup would still need to be imported so ideally you would want to refresh the catalog tape daily.
