VERITAS BEWS 10 released

Anyone have any feedback on it yet? I know it just came out.

I have tried three times downloading the zip file. Every time I get a corrupt archive. WinZip can't even open it, WinRAR has better luck and a repair pass goes through. However, when I try to unpack it with WinRAR I consistently get corruption in Data1.cab
Has anyone successfully extracted the files?

Be shure that you have downloaded the full-archiv (More than 500MB). I downloaded it allready successfully and started the upgrade a few minutes ago...

That link is broken - go to
There are supposedly over 100 changes since 9.1

I would suggest people install on test server/workstation first, make sure you understand what this release is about, how it works before putting in production.

The download went through the fourth time. *shrug*

@justin2000
I was amazed that link worked ;) The only way is not to download it from backupexec.com and create an account...

@cmorrall
Try in a few hours again. There is a lot of traffic on the server...

We installed BEWS 10. We ended up unistalling it into the wee hours of the morning. There are problems with its remote agents and NO support what-so-ever for any NT4 server OS's. Their "Direct Assist" system has been move to a web interface on their site. We paid for 24x7 support. We get none. It took them a month to get back to me on a case classified as critical. What is going on at that company?

Anthony

Did you just install it on your production servers without testing it first?
Did you read the Software compatibility list for 10 at all?

I don't see any problems with the remote agents.

And seeing you have 24x7 support, did you actually ring them to find out what was happening?

Don't expect to be spoon fed all the time..

What? Are you a product rep for Veritas?

@AnthonyMeister
I completly agree with justin. If you are under maintenance and you have access to the advanced support, they will help you! I know this, because I work for with VERITAS very close. I suggest you to escalate your case... You have to understand that they have to answer many upgrade-questions at the moment.

Anyway - I wish you a nice weekend...

No i am not a product rep from Veritas.

But people seem to think that upgrading BE is like upgrading Word or Excel.

They don't bother to do any testing what so ever - and then they upgrade and they run into problems, they then blame everyone and everything except themselves.

Just a question, if you were to upgrade Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003 would you do that with no testing first?

You have a 24x7 support contract which entitles you to call in whenever you want and for as many times as you want.
Don't know why you are relying on email support or direct assist - when you can just pick up the phone to speak to someone.

Let's face it. Sometimes we get forced into performing live updates despite our best advice and judgement to the contrary. My budget and organization does not have the money to invest in series of "test servers". Nonetheless, relying on info I gathered from this forum concerning the upgrade and backward compatibility I proceeded. Even with all the reading and advice, the situation was not what it seemed. I, in fact, called Veritas, first through DirectAssist (w/no response) and then via voice - disconnected after 45 minutes. I called right back and asked for the shift supervisor. Some support huh? The fact that the company was experienceing heavy call volumes at the time (or so they said) doesn't necessitate any accomodation on my part. If call volumes are a problem then I see a case for them to expand their support staff and facilities. They are in the business of supplying paid support afterall, not me.

Microsoft Ended support for NT 4.0 servers as well.

Does anyone know if V.10 uses a different remote agent for windows?

I have a few servers runing the V9.1 agents and it seems to work. Should I take the time to reinstall V10 agent??

@A15

Yes, you have to re-install the remote agent for Backup Exec 10.
