Home office: Pentium II 400 Server, self-built, PC-class, but commercial quality components and properly configured.
Windows 2000 Server (SP2)
Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 SP3
384 Mb RAM
3x60Gb Ultra ATA-100 7200 RPM on Ultra100 Controller (Abit)
WinNT/2000 OS Managed RAID-5 Array (120 Gb Total Space)
Compaq 12/24 Gb DDS-3 DAT (SDT-9000 4mm)
Compaq 32-bit PCI SCSI Controller (Symbios based)
Veritas Backup 8.0 build 3316
The firmware on the DAT drive is 4.05.
I purchased the DAT drive new, via my company. I installed the drive in the server and it worked fine with Windows 2000 NTBACKUP. I used it in this configuration for about a month and had no problems.
It became necessary to schedule backups, so I installed Veritas Backup Exec v8.0 build 3316 and Veritas' Microsoft Exchange Server Option. Since installing Veritas Backup Exec the system will not backup successfully. It backs up about 1.4 Gig and then stops with an error message. In the the job log the process ends abruptly with this message:
Storage device "COMPAQ 1" reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I have tried using Microsoft vs. Compaq DAT drive driver, as well as alternating between Microsoft and Compaq SCSI Controller drivers. No luck.
Thanks much
Justin
