We have had a sudden decrease in speed by 10 times on our backup. We were getting 7GB backed up in 51 minutes previously and now it is taking 8 hours. We are using Veritas v9.0 and a HP VS80 Drive. This drive has been replaced by HP, however we are still getting slow backups. Are there any settings which might be affecting this backup?

Are you performing networke backups? To rule out the tape drive create a backup to disk locally and backup a gig or so an then test the same job to the tape. IF its network backup test with the backup to disk. Generally with that much difference it may be network releated ...if you doint network backups or exchange mailbox backups

Thanks,

When the backup finishes I will be backing up the same 200MB of files as i have done previously but using NT Backup. Hopefully this will eliminate Veritas as the cause.

The tape drive has been replaced twice now due to an initial error and then due to this increased time needed for the backup.
