I recently downloaded a 60 day evaluaton version of Back-up Exec for Windows Servers from the Veritas site. I installed the software on my server and ran a test backup using the software. Two weeks later my server HD crashed and it was the most recent backup I had of some data that I really need.

Now, I've rebuilt a new w2K server and reloaded the software on my new server in hopes of restoring data from that tape. However, it seems to be more cumbersome then expected. Can someone advise me on how to read/restore from a tape that was not created on this server? What does Inventory do? What about Catalog? What function allow me to read a tape and select files to restore?

Thanks in advance.

Inventory - reads the header of the tape and puts it into the BE database.
Catalog - reads the catalog off the tape - this creates a file with actually what is on the tape.
Restore.

Those are the 3 steps needed.

Justin,

Thanks for the input. I was able to inventory and catalog the tape in question. The job status indicates there is 11GB on the tape and I am able to view the directory listing of the files I'm looking for. However, once I start the restore job I recieve an error indicating "Resource Errors - a000848c - Unable to attach to one of the drives" Any suggestions?

It appears there is data on the tape but I need to resolve the above error. Any suggestions?
