We've been running Veritas 8.5 Backup Exec for a long time and never had a need to backup data to another hard drive on a different machine rather than the HP tape drive that it normally backs up to. For some reason I can't get Veritas to see the hard drives as a place to backup to. Can this be done with the version we have or is it tape only? Riley

Not with Backup Exec 8.5 there is not backup to disk option.

Backup Exec 9.x and 10.x offer a backup to disk option in the devices tab in backup exec

Thanks for the quick response. This helps a great deal. I thought I was going blind looking for the option:). Riley

I was mistaken - it's 8.6. Does 8.6 work with files.

Yes, it does. Open BackupExec, & click on the devices tab. The tree that you see on the left hand side will have something called "Backup-to-disk-folders". Right click it & select "New Backup Folder". It will default to a folder on your local disk (C:\). If you have any drives mapped, you can select them also.
