Hi there
I am getting very sporadic results with my backup jobs on my NT 4.0 terminal servers, lotsa crc errors, and requests to clean the drive every week. I am curious if upgrading my mdac drivers would help this.
Currently I have version 2.1 installed on all servers, the latest version is 2.7. Anyone have any experience with this ? or am I barking up the wrong tree ?

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

From experience looks as though you are barking up the wrong tree.

Usually CRC errors and warnings to clean the drive are a sign that you have a hardware issue.

Do you have any event is's 9, 11 or 15 showing in the system log?? If so this is most likely a hardware issue!

Look at replcing SCSI, Tape drive, Cabling, also have you tried updating to the latest Veritas driver??

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply, the only error I get in event viewer is event 7 the tape has a bad block. This is a remote site that I cant physically get to.
When this happens I get the tape sent back to me and pop it into our machine here and it works fine (sometimes I need to erase it first). The hardware, drivers, veritas versions, OS's are all the same.

I dunno SCSI rates maybe ?

Basicly 4 out of 5 dc's work fine just this one is being stubborn. I suspected hardware and had a tech go out and check everything, even replaced the drive as it was still on warranty, still no joy.
