Hello

Someone, please help me.
I wonder if it's possible to use ADSL and VDSL together on one telephone line to the subscriber.

We'd like to introduce VoD service using VDSL technology. But, the telephone company is providing one physical line as well as internet service using ADSL technology. So, we need to sahre one telephone line for ADSL and VDSL. Is it possible? If so, does the subscriber have two CPEs(modem), one for ADSL, the other for VDSL? And, can customer receive a call?

Thank you in advance..

VDSL stands for Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line. It can be symetric or asymmetric. ADSL is assymetric and is an older, slower version compared to VDSL. You will need two separate phone lines if you want to have both VDSL and ADSL. You cannot share two different flavors of DSL on a single copper loop.

Of course this all depends if your telco even has VDSL capabilities. If so then it you should opt for VDSL over ADSL (cost permitting) since it is conceptually the same thing only the VDSL has much higher bandwidth. It's like saying I can either drive a sports car (vdsl) or an economy car (adsl) to get from point A to point B. Both will get you there but one will get you there a whole lot faster. Which would you choose?

Hello

Let me ask further..
As you say, ADSL and VDSL are two different types of DSL technology which transmit data on a copper line. Whether it is ADSL or VDSL, the same copper line can be used.

If so, say we connect one ADSL and one VDSL equip. to one copper line. Then, why can't we use these both tech. on the same line? To me, it seems fine theoritically.. (In our case, VDSL and ADSL use different frequencies for transmitting data.) Plese, refer to the drawing below;

pstn ------------- phone

internet--ADSL equip -- + ======= +- ADSL Modem +- pc

VoD Server--VDSL equip - VDSL Modem +- VoD Player(or pc)
|

(== means a copper line)
