VBscript = Virus!?

Hi, im new to Vbscript and computers in general, im taking courses for programming and i just started so sorry if my questions sound dumb, anyway i was talking with one of my friends and he informed me that VBscript has a huge chance of viruses.and i just wanted to know 2 things, why is that?
and how do the viruses work? do they download without permissions and just do what they are designed to do?

i was just curious and i also ant to know for safety reasons
so if someone can help me out i would really appreciate it thanks

Treat any vbscript as you would any other executable program. If you didn't ask for it, don't run it.

Any web page that has javascript or vbscript has the capability to be a virus because you, who are the owner of your computer, is running it. You have to be careful with which web sites you go to, especially on the Internet.
