Hi,

I am currently dealing with a stubborn client who is on a budget and is currently running a Vantage 12 PBX with Vantage Esprit handsets. Yes, I know the system is ancient, I'd like to upgrade to IP PBX but their office cabling only supports up to CAT5.

They are currently having issues with their headsets, and so I am wondering if Nortel handsets can work on a Vantage 12? More specifically, the M7324.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sami

"M7324"
M7324 is a Norstar phone so no, Norstar sets only work on Norstar systems, this goes for most digital systems where sets are specific to the system they were made for.

"only supports up to CAT5"
Cat5 is all you need for IP Sets, somebody has told you wrong otherwise.

What handsets are currently supported on the Vantage 12 system?

As far as the cabling goes, there is only 2/4 pairs connected in the Cat5 system. My tester and switch show Pair 3 and 4 as open. I doubt I can do PoE on it.

I would think that only the vantage handsets would be supported or work on this system . I can not believe it is still working or in working order . I have not seen one since the early 1990's

As far as I know, we never have them in the UK and I can understand why you wondered if the later handsets would work. I found the attached guide on line. Yes, its very old!.

Did you mean the Patch Panel?

Often lazy tech's will terminate only the pairs they need (Vantage only needed 2) instead of terminating all pairs at the jack and in rare cases the patch panel.
Nothing like pissing off the next tech/client that comes along and now has to move a desk, wall unit or other and risk injury.
If you want to do the job right you have to do it yourself.

So open up a couple jacks to verify "lazytechnitus" and terminate those 2 pairs.

I think most of vantage tech's have either died from "drive thru syndrome" or sucking back zombies with the bank robbers on a beach by now.

I know this is an older post, but WOW, I haven't heard the term Vantage in a long time. I started in the industry in 1994 and Norstar had already been out for a couple years. In almost 30 years (man I'm getting old, lol) I have only ever worked on ONE Vantage 48 and even then, in the mid '90s, it was an older system. Gotta give kudos to the folks from Nortel back in the day, they knew how to build stuff that lasts [bigsmile]
