Im trying to assign a new employee card to a user but I keep getting the error "value already in use"

Is there a way around this ie wiping the current id off the card or is it the case where I'll need to order new cards (Ive none left!)

Any help on this would be great!

that message means that you already have that card number assigned to another employee.

Go to one of your workstations and swipe it. See what employee it registers as.

Go to that employee in the pos configurator and remove the id number from the security tab.

then you will be able to assign it to another employee.

I dont think I can do that as the employees are probably using the cards

well if they are already using the cards why are you trying to assign it to another employee?

The employee lost the card and is looking for a replacement. The cards I have available are old ones that have been given back because they were slightly damaged

How are the employees whose cards you have signing in now?

They are spare cards that I have now. When swipped it says "Employee not found"

However when I goto assign the ID's to an Employee it states the the "value is already in use"

My guess is that they're assigned to former employees who are deactivated in the POS configurator - those with either the "account disabled" box checked or an "end date" entry that's passed. Take a look through your employee list for ex-employees and delete the ID field for any of them.

I've trained the managers in all of our stores to add 1,000,000 to the employee number whenever someone is disabled in Micros. That pushed them to the bottom of the list, making them easy to find and freeing up space to add active employees.

Yeah, I think thats my next step.

So if the end date is passed, the employee will no longer have access?

Right. Employee's whose end date is past are considered terminated so POS operations doesn't recognize them anymore.

ah ok.
without getting technical the easiest thing would be to remove the card ids from the security tab of all expired employees.
