Validating xhtml in golive

I also posted this in your other thread ( i hate it when people bash GoLive without knowing anything about it):

I use GoLive and all my sites validate. Those tags that no browser understands are there for GoLive to keep track of templates, components, action scripts, etc... GoLive has an option to strip all these tags when uploading to the server, all he has to do is turn that option on.

As for the other items, i don't know how they got there. He may have hand coded them or copy/pasted from someone elses code, etc... I'd say the things he's trying to do with them can be accomplished through other correct means. For example move the height attribute from the tr tag to the td tag.

If you can't find the option to strip GoLive tags on upload, let me know, and i'll help you find it. It's been a long time since i turned that on.

Although html allows background attributes for most tags xhtml does not. With xhtml it's best to place backgrounds using CSS.

tr aren't allowed to have height attributes. Move them to the td tags. As for your non-compliant div tag i'd have to look at your code to be sure but it's probably non-compliant because it's located within an in-lign tag. If that's the case you should use a span tag instead of div.

Hey thanks man.

I really appreciate it. Can you tell me where that option in Golive is?

Also, do you have to upload within GoLive for it to work, or can you use an FTP program? The reason I ask is because I'm curerntly uploading with CuteFTP...perhaps this isn't a good idea.

PS - The DIV Tags are GoLive Layers.

scratch that.

I found it and got it validating.

Cheers.

It's best to upload using GoLive. That way extra tags will get striped and GoLive can do things like "upload modified items" so that only changed files get uploaded instead of you waiting for every file to upload.

Also GoLive has two ways to upload. There's the file/connect to server, which would be the same as using CuteFTP and there is the publish server. Use the publish server to update your web sites.
