Validating an email field using the GAL

Hi,
I have a table of users, and within that table a field holds their email address, could some one please tell me how i would validate that email address when a cmd button is pressed. my company uses msexchange/ outlook.

What your trying to do is tricky as the gal, I don't believe is indexed so depending on how large the gal is, it could take quite a while. The agency I work at has a gal thats over 30,000 address, so what we did was to write a service that runs every night and pull the information we want out of the gal using cdo and populates a sql table that we then index. For a lot of good information on cdo goto

The GAL stores e-mail addresses in multiple formats: Exchange FQN, SMTP, X400 etc. Which format are you trying to validate?

Do you simply want to validate the format or actually check if the email address is valid?

I need to check to see if the email is valid. i.e if i have "Dave.smith@domain.co.uk" in my field, i would like to validate it against the GAL to make sure the address is corect, as it could be David.smith@domain.co.uk.
