Hope someone can help.

Trying to setup a Valcom V-9941 Handsfree speaker on my IP office 500 9.x.
The V-9941 unit supports either a loopstart or pageport with contact closure.
I need to be able to page using an extension, this is because we have residents using analog phones in their rooms.

Any suggestions? I was thinking about using a Bogen UTI1 but not sure how I would go about with the connections.

Thanks,

A Bogen UTI can create the contact-closure when interfaced to a single line station port programmed as a Paging Speaker, but it appears to not be bi-directional, so one way paging only, not talk back.

But you can use a trunk port.
Give it a unique Outgoing Line Group ID
Make a short code, such as *88 / Dial / Line Group of paging trunk
ANY phone, single line, digital, IP, or SIP, can dial the short code and access the talk-back paging unit

Thanks Tommy, I will give that a try.

What are you referring to when you say its not bi-directional? Station Port programmed as page-port or UTI1?

The UTI - a trunk port is certainly bi-directional, and frankly haven't tested a station port programmed as a paging port.

From the UTI-1 manual:
Each output can provide audio for 150 Bogen one-way amplified speakers, also compatible with 70V amp inputs

This indicates to me that a UTI-1 will not pass audio from the talk-back speakers back to the IP Office

If you have an open trunk port it won't matter what people are using to access it.

'I need to be able to page using an extension, this is because we have residents using analog phones in their rooms.'

Accessing with an analog phone would be no different than accessing a CO line to make a call. Maybe I am missing something.

The UTI isn't bi-directional, to the best of my knowledge, no matter station or trunk.

My resident are using regular analog princess phones.
Will that make a difference? I want them to be able to call the kitchen using this line, and have the kitchen employee speak without having to pickup the phone, using the Valcom 9941.

Hope I'm making myself understood, I apologize if i'm not.

Thanks

Connecting it to a trunk port would serve that purpose as long as the door phone can do an auto answer. I look up the part and on a trunk port it should work for a talk back intercom sort of thing as long as you use the 45 ohm Valcom speaker designed to go with it.

It makes no difference what kind of phone initiates the call - analog, digital, IP, or SIP.

You could simply use an Avaya IP or Digital phone in the kitchen, go to Features, Call Settings, Internal Auto-Ans, and set it to ON. Any internal call, from any type of set, will automatically activate the speakerphone, and they can still pick up the handset to talk if desired.

If the kitchen is a loud environment I would still go with the talk back. You can use a horn or speaker. We have used the horns in a warehouse with much success.
