When you RMA a hard drive you must call back into 3com and get the licenses transferred over. When you RMA'd the HD 3com will generally ask you what type and how many licenses you have on the HD that is bad. All you have to do is reference your RMA #. You cannot transfer the license backup to the new HD
Well on a SS# the license affiliation is on the tray you returned -- never return the tray. The trays don't go bad, just swap the drive. If you keep the tray and have a copy of the license file you can swap disks forever and you never have to get new licenses.
On the V3000 the licenses are on the board that the drive is screwed to -- same thing -- keep the board and the file
