Hi

We bought a v490 with 2 CPU/memory boards with 16x2 GB each and it was booting just fine.

After we replaced the DIMMs with 1 GB versions POST started throwing errors. Cache, DIMM failed, CPU failed etc. Weird thing is that the errors only occur when both boards are installed. Each board on its own boots without any problems in both slot A and B.
We also tried booting with only 8 DIMMs each but it was still throwing errors. The DIMMs are all the same size and from the same vendor.

Anyone know what could be the cause of the problem?

fenni - you may get more mileage posting in forum60 where there is more Solaris related traffic. Good luck.

what Sun part number are they?

2 CPU's per board?

Are you sure you have the dimms on the correct place. depending on the memory configuration they need to be in specific places on the CPU board
