In short, my customer's 9.7.1 system is configured (in the Opentext.ini) as UTF8. However, it appears that the DB (oracle) is running latin1 (WE8ISO8859P1). My guess is that this configuration in itself is problematic, but i digress.

We are planning to roll out Transmittals 1.7.1, which is a "non-utf8 compliant" module. Now, my understanding of UTF8 is that it supports non-standard characters and such. If we continue with rolling out this module, is our only risk that we wouldn't be able to display some characters? Or are we looking at bigger risks?

I have spoken to one of the front liners of OT support, and she really didnt have a clue regarding UTF8 and the effects of running a non-compliant module.

If you are on Oracle, LL9.7.1 and latin then problems will happen in workflows, forms, form templates.
Transmittals have a high degree of dependency with forms so you may never run into problems other than oracle not able to store UTF8 strings
Your problems will be mostly when something breaks and you approach OT support the front line basically is trained to
look for supported configurations hence you will be thrown out running a unsupported thing.

You probably just ahve to put the existing database a sa copy into a UTF8 compliant database run the utf8 conversion tool that takes the maps.forms etc in your system and make ist usable with UTF8.takes time but bite the bullet and do.

Well, if I called the wrong number, why did you answer the phone?

Thanks for your reply... I'm in agreement, OT has a very easy out when it comes to supporting us under this configuration. However, converting everything fully over to UTF8 really doesnt do us much good, since the entire module in non-utf8 compliant. Transmittals 10 for CS10 is the only version that supports UTF8. Thanks, it helps to have someone else cofirm my own thinking.
