I currently have 2 Windows 2000 Servers located at 2 different locations. I would like to create a VPN that links the 2 locations together. I'm curious as how to do so... I'm unsure whether to use PPTP or L2TP and such. Both locations have a broadband connection.

If you've got the resources....go with VPN appliances.

1. See what routers you have. Check which VPN protocols they are suporting.
2. If you are intending to use PPTP then, is a sort of plug and play, it wil be quick, but, less secure.
3. If you want/and routers support IPSec tunneling (L2TP) then, decide what kind of authentication you can have. I think that the esiest one is shared key. And, many routers wil work ok with preshared keys. Using certificates, that's a differnt story. You can have configuration problems on the routers (it depends on the vendor).
