###Using Webserver on LAN Cant Access on WAN

hi i have recently gotten unlimited 256k Braodband YAY! ok so heres the thing i have my main pc running winxp pro, i am using ICS to share my internet connection. I have my p2 webserver running windows 2003 server, i want all requests to my IP to goto my webserver on the LAN (192.168.0.10) i have tried Port Fowarding or Adding a Port Definition as M$ calls it but it doesnt seem 2 wrk??? HELP!!!! Ps. i am using netspace as my ISP if it helps.

Does netspace block inbound port 80? Also, have you confirmed you can get to the web server from the WinXP Pro machine?

Silly question but where did you setup the port forwarding?
You really need to setup port forwarding on your internet facing router and not on any of your XP\2003 machines.

I would also suggest that you look into using a dynamic DNS client running either on your router (if it supports it) or on the webserver that's running the website, this client will send keepalive packets to the dyndns servers and means your site is reachable via the name rather than the IP address (which can change often if you aren't lucky).

no netspace does not block port 80 inbound or @least thats what they say. Yes i am sure i can access my webserver over LAN by going to my webserver LAN IP. I used my Modem/ ROuter config page to setup port forwarding, also i have a dynamic Ip would this affect the port forwarding? Yes i am currently using no-ip(with bundled client) and cjb.net (with a special client)no-ip is the only 1 that works. i used to be able 2 access my webserver by going 2

http://computername.user.no-ip.com

but i dont know how i did it and it only worked when the client updater was disabled but still updated to the right IP ???? Please i dont care how its done, can some1 help my access my webserver from the LAN!!

Have you checked your port forwarding on your internet router? is it pointing to your web server?

thx 4 the quick reply guys, no sorry my setup has changed a fair bit since my first post. i have the router as a dhcp disbtributing its stuff (Ips etc...) which obviously doesnt need to use ICS also my modem/router is now connected via my NIC and has built in NAT firewall if that helps. also my router has 2 pcs connected then has a cat5 crossover connected to my cisco catalyst 1900 which only has 1 pc connected via 10mbs link and that is my webserver. i hope this helps.
And now Simon yes i am sure that my port fowarding is pointing to the correct port and IP of my webserver.

also is there any of this i need 2 change im going 2 change the http server port cuz its the port 4 the modem config page it makes me wonder whether all this only applies 2 the modem config page???

right, tell me what happens when you try to access your website from an external source?

Have you allowed port 80 out of your router?

Just to give you an idea.. on my netgear router I can't access internal resources using an external address, I had to be external to do the testing.

Try and see what happens if you try to access your website from a cyber cafe or friends house.

thanx simon i will do this ASAP but, even though i have not allowed port 80 on my router the modem config page is accessible from my IP @ default port 80 so it must be im guessing i looked @ port forwarding and i dont see any entries for port 80 so....
PS i am uusing a netcomm NB1300

When you're accessing the modem page are you doing it internally or externally?

If you have setup port forwarding correctly then any requests coming to the router from an external source 'should' be forwarded to the correct internal address. If you are browsing externally and getting the modem page then I guess you really need to either check that you have turned the remote management website function off the router and definitely told the router to port forward correctly.
