Anyone have any problems with the DB max of 4gb in using SQL express with Arcserve r12? Or did you just bypass using express and go straight to regular sql.

Apparently it is not an issue. I'm not a SQL guy but it seems that CA found a way to work around it. Someone said they use multiple instances of SQL Express but I don't know.

One thing I do know is that by default it uses what they call Catalog DB. That is where the database maintains the detail information in external catalog files.

During a backup the db info is put into a catalog file. Without Catalog DB after the backup the catalog file is merged into the database and then deleted. With Catalog DB only the summary information is merged into the database and the catalog file is moved to the CATALOG.DB subdirectory under the ARCserve home directory. Now since only summary data is in the database the overall database can contain a lot of information with still maintaining a small database size.

Well my DB went from 4.6gb to 600mb so the conversion went smooth.
