Hi

Fairly soon we ware going to be taking over a new network. Eventually we will be extending our network to their sites, but in order to do this we need to get as much info about their network as possible.

We would like to use SMS to "survey" their domain and it's clients, but are reluctant to setup domain trusts etc.

Can SMS do what we need and if so, can anyone offer any adivce on the best way to do it.

With no trust I dont think it can be done (otherwise how would it connect.)

You could always install a new SMS server on the new domain.

I'm with Tim on this one, put a SMS machine on the new/other network. Without a trust being created, you wont be able to bridge the two. Probably best just loading up a Virtual machine on any spare windows box, loading it with 2003Srv single SQL instance and sms, if you're not wanting to do anything with it than let it collect data, you don't really need to bother taking into account any other sequential system configuration. That

Hope this Helps.

Thanks for the replies.

I only asked because of something I read in the Client Push Installation Properties box, on the Accounts tab it says:

"If you have Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 domains, untrusted forests, or workgroup you might also need to configure the Advanced Client Network Access Account."

However, I'll sugest that we use a seperate server on the new network.

That scenario you mentioned I believe you have to be in standard security in SMS (such as if it was Novell network)
then you would set up SMS sp1 or better and would have to setup all your sms accounts in the other domain (like 2.0)

All that said, if it were a workgroup there aare no trusts, but a ad domain.... I dont see how it could be done without them (might be doable I just havent done that one, but in the next couple of weeks I might have to just that :-o so we'll see how that goes! An AD 2003 domain to migrate a Novell network ACK!)
