I've heard you can use SMS 2.0 to change registry settings on deployed systems. The systems concerned are W2K Pro workstations. Does anyone have any clues how this is done?

You can do this easily with sms installer also (which as Gladys said IS scripting....kind of)

You can export the registry changes from a system with the changes already in place and the create a package that invokes: regedit /s <export_filename>

This will run regedit in silent mode and import the registry entries from the export file created above.

This is much easier than scripting and using sms installer.

I think he has to use scripting because this is to import information to many systems at once.

The one thing that I like about doing the script through SMS or through MOM is that it is in a centralized location where you get some logging if they do not run. I have had customers that run tasks from Task Manager, set them to run under a particular, forget about them and then disable the account. Then it has taken a bit of time to find out what has happened.

Creating a package that invokes regedit can advertized to one or several systems.

I can script, but why go through the trouble of writing one when regedit is so much easier!
