Hi!

Perhaps a kind soul could help me solve this strange problem. I have a Dell PV 132T Tape Library which can take SDLT 160/320 tapes. I have Backup Exec 9.0 (latest build and patches) installed and both my tape library and drive have the latest firmware installed.
Whenever I perform backups and look at the media properties I only see 1:1 compression. This should be 2:1. I have hardware compression enabled and still the problem persists. Switching to software compression does not solve the problem either. In fact the tape is showing up as a DLT tape with 149 GB space available! When I look up the type of media I only see 1 type of SDLT tape (110 Gb ) to use.
Could someone please help solve this problem. I reported this problem to Veritas support but they haven't responded after 4 days yet !!

Many thanks!

have you actually done a backup that has used the whole tape up yet?

If you have, how much is being backed up onto the tape?

Thanks for replying. No I haven't done a backup which occupies the whole tape yet. Only about 20 GB maximum. Could this be the reason? BE will start giving the correct capacity once the tape starts filling up?
What sort of compression are you using which gives best results? Hardware or software?
I'm still in the early stages of configuring and learning BE 9.0 I had an issue lately trying to install their hotfixes. They released a hotfix to fix this !

Thanks
Pierre
