I would like to use the hard disk spaces of the pc s connected to the RS machine . The PC s are running with windows'98.I like to use it during archieve(tar) operation.

How can I do it?

Hi,
no everything is clear to us of your problem.

You can share files between platforms (or transfer by
ftp or floppy) but rarely you can use these from both
OSs, except text files (with CR-LF limitation) or
you can read by winzip os similar, archives built by tar
on Unix.

To transfer files from-to AIX/WIN you can launch ftp
from WIN ( standard from command window ) or by commercial
or free packets. (You can also use Internet Expolorer)

To shares files from AIX to win, you have 2 way: one of
the 2 systems has to emulate the other;

if you want to "transform" a Unix machine in WIN, install
SAMBA on AIX;

if you want that PC "becomes" a Unix machine, install a
commercial NFS client on win98;

In both situations you will see your RISC with its shares,
in network neighboorod of Windows.

bye

Hello,
Why do you want to do this?

I do see some problems.

In fact I would like to use the PCs hard disk space,because i have short of space in my RS machine .I am using oracle database and would like to keep dbf files in the pcs hardisk. But the pcs harddisk would act like as it is the space of the RS machine

Hello,
You are better of by adding just one more hdisk in to the system. If you go to pc the performance will be slow.
