I updated a batch file posted on microsoft's web site which makes backups of the registry and stores them in a cabinet file. I modified the batch file to take a server name as an argument.

After some preliminary testing I noticed that each of the different hives created by regback always had the exact same size no matter which server I used it against. Does anyone know for sure whether or not regback actually works on remote machines? It looks to me like it takes the backup of the local machine only.

thanks!

I do not like scripting in general. Well, I DO script something, but as little as I can.

Mark the note at the support article you are referring to:

"NOTE: The solution that is described in this article is not supported by Microsoft. Use this method at your own risk."

A better way to make a backup of your registry and system files is to regularly (choose an intervall that fits your backup strategy) back up the system state.

You can schedule this backup job as well.

Keep it simple :)
