On My Toshiba Satellite the internal ethernet connection quit ( I think due to a lightning strike).
I bought a Netgear PCMCIA ethernet card and can't ping anything except the card. I have disabled the (bad) internal card. Is my only recourse to send the Toshiba in for service(2 weeks!)

hi,
you may want to consider checking for the following:

what's the type of your network...10 or 100 ?
what type does your pcmcia network card support ?
are you using the correct dongle and network patch cable ?
it is a good sign that you are able to ping your card..then it might be an external problem.
