Using Paths To Select Objects 2

Is there a way to use a path to select an underlying image (or portion of an image), the same way there is in Photoshop? For example, if I've imported an image into Illustrator -- say of a crowd of people. But I wanted to cut one person out of the crowd, and be able to cut just that person, and past them on a different layer, how do I go from using the path outline of their image, to actually using the shape of that path as the selection tool.

The way that I know how to do it (there may be better ways) would be to export your path to AI from PS, put it over your image, and make a clipping path. It will just hide the rest of your image, not delete it, so be sure that your img doesn't go far beyond what you plan on clipping (ie, don't use the entire img of the crowd - PS it and crop it as close as you can to the man you want to isolate).
Hope this helped!

Josh:

You're trying to lasso-select part of a bitmap image, sounds like. You cannot do that directly in Illustrator, should be done in Photoshop.

If, on the other hand, you're asking if there's a lasso-tool option in Illustrator to select some vectors, then yes, there is, second row right hand side. You will find that it definitely is not the same as PS, though, vectors just aren't pixels.
