Hello -

I'm looking for a quick way to make an HTML page from a indesign page. Seems like Package for GoLive should be the key, but I can't figure out how to access the XML files that are created in the package.

I've tried looking for tutorial on using Package for GoLive and I read thru previous posts - (and tried mkaing a PDF and then saving it as HTML but that didn't work...the page it created is nothing even close to the original) but I just can't see to get anywhere.

Can anyone point me in a good direction?

Thank you!!
Ann

Are you using GoLive? This is needed for 'Package for GoLive'. There is a reason why they say 'GoLive' in 'Package for GoLive'.

Otherwise you have two options:

1) Export a PDF file and then open in Acrobat. From Acrobat, export HTML.

2) Tag your layout in InDesign properly so that you can export XML. Then tweak the XML into HTML.

Yes, I have GoLive and InDesign.

1. I've tried this, but result is a complete mess. The PDF shows a pretty simple grid design mixing images and text. The HTML file created from the PDF shows random parts of images all over the page and 90% of the text is missing.

2. My questions - how do I tweak the XML in GoLive? I don't even know how to access it. Is there a tutual somewhere?

Check the tutorials at
The package does not make an instant HTML page for GoLive. You essentially need to rebuild the document in GoLive with the components in the package.

The idea behind this is that you separate content from design/layout. In an ideal XML workflow, you compose and tag content before creating a print or screen layout. Most web design is based on XML or database content these days. This is what Adobe is trying to nudge us all to.
