Using my providers DNS

Hello, I have a few domain names, and in the domain registrar's I use my providers dns servers in the format ns1.provider.com, and ns2.provider.com.
I have access to the dns of all of my individual domains, therefore I was wondering if I could setup one of my domains to point to the providers dns, and then have my other domains point to it.
For instance, I tried setting up ns1.mydomain1.com and making a cname record pointing to ns1.provider.com, but that didn't work. I also tried making an ns record of ns1.mydomain1.com and pointing it to ns1.provider.com. That didn't work either.
The reason I would like to do this is because my provider gives me discounted rates since I am a freelance web developer, but everytime I get a client I have to tell them to point their domain to my providers dns. I would rather have them point to me directly, and have my dns forward it to my providers dns.
Thanks in advance.

I am not really sure I understand what you are trying to do but didn't you just give the answer yourself in your last sentence: "... and have my dns forward it to my providers dns". Shouldn't you configure forwarders so your DNS server forwards all queries which it can't resolve to you provider's DNS servers?

I think he wants to alias his providers DNS NS addresses ie

ns1.mydomain.com points to ns1.providers.com

I think if you use hosts instead of cname's ie. ns1.mydomain.com > ip of ns1 provider. You will also have to change the pointers on the site you register with because they will be still pointing to ns1.provider.com instead of ns1.yourdomain.com. Also you might need to set the IP of the the DNS servers here to depending on how you go about doing this.

A good site to use to test is
When changing the NS records on the registar site you will need to wait 24-48 hours for it to change.

Thank you for the reply guys ... I'm not sure I understand though. You hit the nail on the head; I want to create aliases to my providers dns.
I know the IP addresses of my providers dns, therefore I can point to them instead of ns1. and ns2. (is that what you mean?). I'm not sure what you mean by using hosts instead of cname's. If I add a dns entry on my domain, I only have the choices of A/NS/MX/CNAME/PTR records.

Thanks Faith ... it looks to be working, but as you mentioned I have to wait 24-48 for the registrar settings to kick in. I'll let you know.

Thanks for the help guys, but unfortunately I have learned that it's not possible to do what I wanted. The reason is that when you point your domain to name servers in a registrar, you need to point to registered name servers. My ns1/ns2.mydomain1.com are obviously not registered name servers, therefore I can't do it.

For anyone looking to do the same thing ... what I need to do is purchase 2 static IP address from my provider for ns1/ns2.mydomain.com, and then set the IP addresses up as name servers (which I don't know how to do yet). Then I need to register them as name servers through mydomain.com's registrar. Only after doing that will I be able to point domains to them for dns.

Thanks again guys.
