Hi all,

We have a storagetek L40 tape library with 3 drives.
1 drive is reserved for a exchange backup.

The other 2 drives are in one group. I would like to use both drives at teh same time for one backup job, so the backup takes less time to finish.

Can i do this, or do i have to make a second backup job ans split the servers.

ps. We have about 80 servers.

Firstly, you will need to use the tape library option to gain the full funcitonality of your L40.

You can setup your library so that the two drives within the same group are able to backup multiple 'nodes' at the same time. This is called 'multi-streaming' but you will need to use Brightstor Enterprise Backup to utilise it as I dont believe Arcserve ever had the functionality to do it.

Bear in mind, though, that there is a difference between a 'job' and a 'node'. A node is simply a backup target (ie a local drive, a client agent, a database agent etc...), whereas a job is complete list of nodes. Once a job is active and has control of the tape device, no further jobs can be processed until the active job has relinquished control of the device. If, however, your backup job consists of a great number of 'nodes' then you can configure your library to stream the nodes across both devices in the group. When one node is complete, the job engine processes the next node on the list and passes it to the available device. This will greatly reduce your backup window but requires careful planning!

We use Arcserve 2000 advanced edition build 7

What i mend was to create more Job's. So i can split all the servers per job. 40 servers in one job. Then the jobs can start togheter at the same time en use both drives?
