I can`t seem to get it right.

I setting up a mixed mode domain and moving all the office machines onto the domain.

I want to keep everyone`s local desktop when they are joined on to the domain.

I guess the idea is to go to AD users and computers and specify a network path to their user profiles on the local machine.

Or is there an easier way to do it.

here's the theory

before joining a pc to a domain, the users profile will be stored at

c:\documents and settings\user1

when you configure an account on the domain keeping the username the same and not configuring roaming profiles then the new profile is stored at

c:\documents and settings\user1.domainname

profiles user1 and user1.domainname are 2 different profiles

login to the pc as an administrator and copy the profile (using the system icon) user1 onto user1.domainname (all settings should be present when user1 logs into this pc.

user1 profile will not be in use anymore unless the user logs in locally to the pc (ie selecting the pc name as the domain)

[If you want users profile to be local on the pc you don't have to configure anything in the AD users profile part, just leave it blank]
==============================================

this is very time consuming so first copy everyone's profile to the new server (login script should suffice \\server\profiles\%username% for example)

next configure everyone's user account profile path to be
\\server\profiles\%username%

when user1 logs in the roaming profile is copied to the pc as well

now configure AD users and blank out the profile part.

when user1 logs in it will use the local profile

however I'm sure you will test this out before trying it so good luck

Thanks a lot as I only have one server and 20 users it shouldn`t be too much work maybe.
