I want to produce a form that will alow users to import a jpg file. Currently I am using a general field in a table. It is important that the jpgs are embedded within a field in a table. However I can only seem to get it work with a bmp. I am using VFP6 and I understood that there is now native support for jpgs so why doesn't it work? When I use the append general command a icon appears with the name of the file as opposed to the image.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I was not aware of such a problem under Windows NT or 9X, and cannot offer any known remedies.

Am I correct in understanding that only the icon prints in the report under Windows NT?

If you were creating the .jpgs from scratch, it would be relatively easy to centre the image in a .jpg container of fixed dimensions, ie A4.

Reading your previous posts, I take it that these .jpgs already exist, and you are scooping them up into this project?

Chris,

The images will have either been scanned in, taken from a cd rom catalogue or downloaded from the internet. Some may even be created freehand. So yes they will all be of varying sizes.

Correct, only the icon prints on the report.

You say that appe gen works for you? What OS are you running and what graphics editor are you using?

Weedz,
What editor are you using for your Jpeg files? Does it work using the picture fied in report?

I do have an application using APPE GENE here, working on networked Windows 98, (not SE), (Client for Microsoft Networks), and standalone Windows ME.

The APPE GENE application will shortly be going for user testing on an NT 4.0 network, so watch this space! The problems so far encountered with NT only relate to PATH statements.

Graphics editors include Corel Photo-Paint 8.0, Adobe PhotoShop 5.0 and PaintShop Pro 5.0.

.jpgs are currently associated with Corel Photo-Paint 8.0, but have not experienced any problems when the association has been changed.

Chris,

At last it works!!!!

Using Microsoft Photo Editor I can view and print jpgs - its brilliant.

Photo editor comes with Office 97 onwards and is therefore compatible with most PC OS, it is also a product that most of our customers already have. I cannot ask customers to spend £400 + on a separate graphics package in order to utilize the full functionality of my app.

Chris you've been a star, thanks for all your help.

Delighted for you that you have the result you need.

For the benefit of others who may experience a similar problem, what was the offending graphics editor?

Chris

Chris,

Microsoft Image Composer was the offending graphics editor!

Once again, thanks for al your help.
