I'm trying to use Illustrator 9 files in Freehand 8/9 and vice versa. I can open a Freehand file, save it as an illustrator file, and use it in Illustrator just fine. But if I save an Illustrator file as an EPS file and open it in Freehand, it is noneditable. Also, I am having trouble inserting Illustrator EPS files into Microsoft Word 2000. My files contains graphics and text.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you save the Illustrator file as EPS in Level 1 (means: AI version 8) you have no more troubles in MS Word. It's the import filter of Word that only recognizes Level 1 files.

With Freehand it's a kind of its own: I don't want to challenge the users of this proggie - but FH is bullshit if trying to edit EPS files in it. It won't even open files that were created by itself - what more should I say?

if you flatten your illustrator files and save them as 8 you should be able to bring them into most programs. If that doesnt work, save them as 6. Although I dont know why you would ever want to use illustrator files in any other app. :)
