using .htaccess to redirect dynamically created urls

Will this also work if they should happen to mistype something and try to access a file that never was there. For instance if there was a file foo.html and they type foo.hltm or ofo.html?
My objective here is to make sure they as long as they have the correct domain typed in they will not get a generic Microsoft Error saying there is no such site.

if I needed to replace a query string of id= with member=, would I use the following code ...
The URL I want to redirect is

Question, I don't need the "(.*)" do I?
