Has anybody ever used a HP ProCurve 2524 24-Port 10/100 with Bay (Nortel) Baystack 350-24T switches? Particularly, I would like to use fibre to connect them.

My network currently consists entirely of Baystack switches, and a Bay Accellar 1100R switch. These are all connected with fibre.

Has anybody ever used both these switches before, and can they give me a comparison?

Thanks in advance,

Geoff.

Geoff,

Yes, I have hooked Baystack with Procurve in our network. The only difference I had was that I have the Bay 450-24T. They'll communicate just fine together. However...and this is a big however...you must be certain that you have the correct transceivers (i.e. 100-sx or 1000-sx). They'll both need to be the same. Also the HP and Bay will not auto-negotiate speeds (at least my experience...anyone else feel free to chime in). Go ahead and decide what speed you can run and then force the HP and Bay to hold that speed on their respective fiber ports. HPs are particulary fussy when it comes to speed and other legacy equipment that is not of the HP family.

Hope that helps...best of luck...

Thanks for your advice. I now have the switches in place, and they are talking just fine.

Thanks again,

Geoff.
