Using GNOME Things "Disappear" into task bar

Thia is weird, since yesterday (I cannot remember changing anything), whenever I start a program from GNOME and then minimize it, it disappears! It is supposed to minimize to an icon in the taskbar, but it just disappears and the program still runs! What this means is that in order to stop the program I have to either do a ps -ef | grep for the daemon and kill it, or reboot!

Anyone ever seen this and correct it?

Check if you have enabled the "hide" (or some such name) option in the window manager settings. Alt Tab would list the windows that are open and you can check if they are all intact.
