I have a site with files created by another editor and they display correctly in IE, Netscape and Opera ( menuing aside for now)

But, when I use Dreamweaver to edit these same files, the menu layer is off a considerable amount, the body of the text is overlapped by the menu layer and on each end of the site border, the end cells are not letting the primary top cells run 100% across.

I understand this might be difficult to descibe but I'm asking if there are known issues with DW on the importing of existing sites? The original site shell was *canned* and now I'm completely redoing parts of it because I hate the menuing scripts they used. Ugly!!!

Any suggestions would be very welcomed.

PS- Looks like I will be planning to use project7 menuing DW extension scripts. They seem to be very clean and my testing went very smooth with them. Comments?

THanks

MikeS

Select Modify >> Page Properties enter 0 (zero) in the 4 margins.

Hope it'll help ;-) Have Fun...(try at least...) LOL

Nope.. did not help at all :-(

I would swear it has something to do with DW reading the code and making a change or two.

Thanks

One more try, when you're viewing it in DW does it looks good?

If not, try: View >> Visual Aids >> Hide All

else post a link to the file.

Hope it'll help ;-)

GOT IT!!!

Here is the short version(after much pain and coffee)

I ended up stripping the page down to the absolute barest table config which covered the logo, edge graphics and bottom. Like I said, this was a purchased shell of a site and guess what, even the very FIRST set of pages from vendor were broken in DW. I took the stripped page and then stripped one down in a different editor. I ran a doc comparsion between the two and found two table tags errors. One was ADDED by DW when the page loaded to autocorrect an error. This in turn covered up the real missing tag which I found by taking the offending table code and adding it to a blank page, one table at a time.( [curse]nested tables.... pain to troubleshoot)

BTW-- the page looked FINE in the browser- only when it was in the editor that the error was apparent. Or when I tried something tricky.

I deleted the offended tags that DW inserted, added a </table> at the end of a table and BINGO.. one happy page.

Now I can back to redoing the menus.

The good news is I learned alot about DW in this effort.

Thanks for the help. [thumbsup2]
