Hi,

I've just copied and pasted an image from Photoshop, and need to use it to get color samples for the work in Illustrator. When I use the eye-dropper, it just gives me a blank color.

I realize that I could just open the image in Illustrator, but am just wondering for future reference whether there is a way to get the color info from an imported image.

Thanks!

Is it Illy 10 or older? If so you need to hold control (Windows) while you click with the eyedropper to sample a colour off a bitmap. (In CS you don't need to hold control).

'Fraid not, I'm using AI 9.0. Is there any other way?

As you probably guessed, my naive thought that just opening the image in AI would work didn't.

So are you saying that Ctrl-Clicking with the eyedropper doesn't work in 9? (I can't remember if it worked in that version).

Did you try it?

Ah ha! Shift-click does indeed work.

I suppose if I had played around for long enough I would have guessed it eventually. It's not a particularly surprising combination...

Thanks very much to both of you!

Oh right, Shift-Click. Sorry, I've been using CS for about 5 months now and my memory doesn't stretch that far (damn MTV generation). Heh.

I just started using a freeware product called ColorCop. This product will sample any color on your desktop. It also magnifies any area on your desktop. I find it to be very handy. Hope this helps.
