Unlike the Partner ACS, which has specific programming to accommodate up to (2) door phones, the Merlin Magix does not appear to have any.

My thinking would be to configure any door phone extensions on either a T/R module or ETR module as Hot Lines.

My understanding of how Hot Lines work is that once a single line phone (used with Hot Lines) is activated, the extension will dial whatever is found in the first entry of the extension's Personal Speed Dial list.

Having said that, is it possible to have a door phone signal more than one extension (say maybe 10) so that more than 1 user can communicate with the door phone? [ponder]

Well, you could have the door phone call 1 extension and have cover buttons for that extension on 8 others.

-OR-

You could have the door phone call 1 Extension - A PHANTOM with only 1 SA Button - and then have up to 16 other extensions with Shared System Access buttons for that PHANTOM.

So, do you want 9, or up to 16?

Hi Merlinman!

I would like to try the 16 extension method to see how well it works.

I have a spare Avaya door phone kicking around that I could connect to the last port on the ETR card (I configured the last 4 ports on the card as T/R and I can simply move around my test phones from port to port to port)

I'm going to have to do some reading up on how to implement your suggestion. I hope to be able to figure it out, but if I get bogged down, I know where I can find help! [bigsmile]

Thanks Again!

OK Paul.

I have spoken about this solution in other posts as well.

I'll check old posts to try to locate info about this particular issue. [smile]

I haven't seen the MM post..to know if he addressed the
possiblity of using a Viking door phone unit....uses CO
port...set it up as pvt line. just a thought.

Of course that would work with no limits on who can receive the call.

Coming in as a LINE, that puppy could ring EVERY PHONE.

I have one of those units here on my front door...Set up
as a pvt line on all my stations....acts just like an
incoming call. this unit works for me.

Actually, if you have any T&R Station Ports available, you could do a LOOP AROUND (From the T&R Station Port to a T&R Line Port) and have the Door Phone do the HOT LINE thing to the T&R Station Port.

That way, you would eliminate the 8 to 16 limit altogether, by emulating a ringing line into the system.

As I said before, LINES CAN RING EVERY PHONE.

Well, my ETR module as the last (4) ports configured as T/R and I am not needing all (8) ports on the 800 LS/GS module, so ports are definitely there.

Now, the $50k questions are:

1) Is the Viking door phone the same as the Avaya door phone? If not, what is the Viking part number?

2) By Loop Around, is that simply taking a patch cord and connecting one of the T/R ports to one of the 800-LS ports?

Let's see if I correctly understand the suggestion floated by HiDesert & Merlinman:

A) Make the door phone port a Hot Line.

B) Put the T/R station port that will be looped to the T/R line port on the 800 LS as the first entry in the Person Speed dial list assigned to the door phone's port.

C) Connect the T/R port to the T/R line.

D) Have the T/R line appear on telephones.

How close am I? [ponder]

[Wow! This topic grew while I was trying to locate any possible older door phone posts!]

You got it!

That should work just fine for you.

The reason it kept growing was we just kept kicking it around and figuring out the possibilities.

But, I do not know about the VIKING or the Avaya Door Phone price.

No complaints from me about all the posts! I like starting a topic and having it grow. It shows there is interest out there [bigsmile].

If the Avaya door phone is the same as the Viking, it will save me some money (and that would be a nice thing right about now [wink]). I just need to be sure before I go back to the Magix and try it out.

Now I have to wipe some egg off of my face over a post in the Partner forum.

vikingelectronics.com will get you to the website.. your
looking at about $125.00...to get around the station limitation...put the CO port that is being used for the
door phone into a pool.....

Hi HiDesert,

Is the Viking phone the same as the Avaya phone? Seems to me that Viking and Bogen have both made door phones for Avaya.

I'm not familiar with the Avaya Door phone...have always
used Viking...maybe MM knows??? Sorry about that...

I'm going to head over to the Merlin, connect up a spare Avaya door phone, make the programming changes and see what happens.

your better off using the vikeing , as the avaya door speaker may not work from the station as a hot line ,you need the door controller to make it work correctly

I see no reason why the Avaya wouldn't work.

In fact, I have used them before.

It emulates a Single Line phone, and to be a hot line all you have to do is go off hook, and it dials the First Personal Speed dial.

Ran into a problem and couldn't knock it out after 2 hours of tweaking and head banging, [banghead] so I'm back with my tail between my legs (so to speak). I'm having problems getting past the inside DT at extensions 61.

1) Configured the last 4 ports (58-61) on the ETR module as T/R.

2) Reactivated lines 805 & 806 at 2 extensions (22 & 23).

3) Connected port 58 to 805 and port 59 to 806.

4) Removed Hot Line designations from extensions 60 & 61.

5) Connected a single line telephone to extension 61.

6) Dialed #00,01,59. (This may be where my problem lies).

7) Hung up and made 61 a hotline extension again.

8) Went off-hook with the single line telephone and heard inside DT.

After removing the hotline designation from extension 61, I
even reconfigured the port as ETR so I could use a Partner Euro to try to program Personal Speed Dial 01 and then configure the port again as T/R.

Went back and forth for about 2 hours between the manuals & the system, put everything away and returned home to type this out. [cry]

I would like to see a print of your EXTENSION DIRECTORY.

That may help us to figure this out.
