I am using CR9 and I have got two subreports each passing a shared variable back to the main report so that I can do some arithmetic with them in them main report. I don't want the subreports to show so I have tried supressing them, supressing the objects in the subreport and supressing the section that the subreports appear in, but when I do any of these the data isn't returned to the main reports. I could do something like printing them in white on white to hide them but that is messy. What should I do?

Fiona,

I'm using CR 8.5 and find that shared variables is a mixed blessing - great functionality but poor for presentation.

I simply reduce the size of the sub-report down to a microscopic size, then if it is the only thing in a particular section I "squish" that section as much as possible.

My report has small blank spaces but its the only way I have found to virtually eliminate these sub-report shared variables from printing.

Good Luck!

Fiona,

Do everything you have been doing (namely shrinking the length of the subreport, suppressing the sections in the subreport) exceptsuppress the section of the main report in which the subreport is placed, as this will cause any formulae in the subreport to not execute.

Instead, format the section the subreport is placed in to underlay following sections. As long as the section containing the subreport doesn't process many times for every one time you want to return the shared variables, this should work for you.

If you're still not attaining the result you want, come back with a little detail on what you want to do (examples would be cool), how you're trying to do it (define what formatting etc options you have activated), and what you're currently experiencing.

All the best,

Naith
