using caller id to return call on restricted line on TAW848? 1

I have a TAW848 and I want to be able to return calls using the caller id callback function, but I have things set up so that I need to dial account and verification codes to grab an outside line.

No problem, I thought...I just need to use caller id modification to stick a quickdial reference '**5' in front of each number and then store my access and verification codes and pin in **5. Well, that doesn't work and I can't figure out why. When I manually dial the quick dial number (**5) it works fine to grab an unrestricted outside line. And I can see that the number in the caller id log is properly modified with **5 at the beginning. But when I bring up a caller id number and lift up the handset it tells me the line is 'restricted' as though it is not dialing **5 at the beginning.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? Is there any workaround that will allow me to return calls in my caller id log even though I have restricted lines? I naturally tried the obvious one: I manually grabbed an unrestricted outside line and then I pressed the caller id log button, but as long as the handset is off hook the caller id log button doesn't show me the caller id log. Very frustrating.

Any advice?

Thanks,

Alan

no work around for that unrestrict or drop that idea
and dial from outlook.

Thanks, cwc3. That's what I was afraid of. Seems like an odd design choice, because it means that any business that restricts outside lines will not be able to use caller id dialing to return calls. I wonder if there's any chance that panasonic will fix that in a later software update. Do all the panasonic pbxs have this problem?

well the way they think if you have a resticted phone
it is a not an executive station.

the caller id on the td was less than great
it only actually logged caller id on and I know of
none that have a resricted ext that use caller id callback
feature

why is your ext restricted to begin with. have you
thought of locking your ext when your away and just
adding account codes after a call is in progress

also I don't do the taw i am a tda dealer
but tapi if taw supports it ,may be a better solution for you capture with and dial out with a pc?

I restrict outside lines so my 11 year old daughter who has pretty extreme adhd can't dial otehr people compulsively (she has been known to dial her friends at 4am on easter sunday, for example). I thought of using 'walking extensions' or otherwise setting things up so that the extensions could be unlocked and re-locked, but I need a solution that does not depend on any user involvement (I don't want other users to have to constantly be logging in and out of their phones). If I were able to have them log into their phones and have those phones automatically log out after a specified time, that might be of interest. Otherwise, I'll just have to bear this for a few more years till my daughter isn't so impulsive and then unrestrict the line.

TAPI is too awkward a solution...I want the phones to be pretty idiot proof and self contained.

Thanks for your responses...uit really does help to know that I was looking for a solution that doesn't exist.
