using Avaya server edition as demo on laptop with VMWare... ??

Has anyone managed to setup the IP Office server edition, running it on VMware on a laptop, and using it as your demo switch.

I have seen it working first hand with one of my channel managers from Avaya. I even got the links to download and do it myself. But it just doesn't want to work, and the support is non-existant per se. So I am wondering if anyone else is doing this?

I am going to try it again, starting from scratch again, but any help would be appreciated.

Pretty easy.

- Import the Server Edition OVA
- Login into Web service (port 7071)
- uninstall package IP Office
- install package IP Office Demo and if you like IPO Demo config

Start services again and play around

Replacing the IPO with IPO Demo is necessary to have a bunch of licenses available.

okay, I will give that a shot. That is different from the knowledge base document I have. And I haven't done much with server edition ever, so how do I log into the Web Service?

The address is shown in the server's console after booting.

In the deployment guide for virtualized servers it is documented how to adjust the IP address if needed.

This is how we do our customer demos. Works well. Get a cheap wireless router so you can show Equinox on mobile too.

update.. I decided to use the Oracle Virtualbox freeware. Everything came together once I realized that I had a conflict with my physical ethernet. And when it first comes online the directions say to use

https://192.168.42.230:7071,

but it should read use

https://192.168.42.1:7071,

and then you will go in and set up the .230

I have not tested it, but it would appear that the demo only works when its plugged into a switch? my guess is that you need the network port active?

Depends... If you use the 'host only network' and the corresponding virtual NIC on your laptop has an IP out of the correct network it works. If you want to connect devices other than the laptop then you need to connect the physical NIC for sure.
