Hiya, can anyone tell me if it is possible to have a master excel workbook that can be updated via vba with ado/sql? I know I can read from the master workbook using another workbook and the ado connection but I can’t remember if the updating records was still available. Basically I will have a master workbook acting like a database, then user workbooks will query the master db, update fields etc then move on to the next record. I would rather that approach compared to a shared workbook as with ado I don’t need to open the master db workbook and if I remember correctly it is also a lot faster.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Regards

J.

Why not access database, at least as a back-end? It is in Office 365 package. If not, one can create JET database using ADOX.

Hiya,

Like most bits I work on the user has an excel document that they want to keep working with. Essentially there will be a manager’s excel workbook where they populate data, then there will be user workbooks that will pull data from the manager workbook, amend column data then push the updates back to the managers workbook. It screams backend database but alas user requirements.
