Hello,

Is there anyway I can use an old laptop monitor as a monitor keyboard for a desktop computer (server)? This would save me money on getting a new Monitor and Keyboard for the server. I only need a monitor for the server to view it on occasion to take care of server issues.

Regards,
Roger

Would like to know the answer myself. If the laptop is working then it is simple to set up the remote connection. I have a laptop which has IDE problems that I would love to convert to a 14" TFT monitor. Anyone?

Sweet more people that wants to do the same thing ;)

I have been working on that. The Basic notebook LCD has two connectors. The one connector is for the signal (normally 7 wires, I believe 3 of them gives you the RBG). I suspect that this might be the same as a normal CRT screen signal cable, will still have to prove it ;P

The other connecter is used to power and control what some people call an inverter and some people call a converter. I myself believe the better name for it would be a converter.

The converter/inverter provides the backlight with high voltage and also controls the brightness.

A good simple example for the back light and converter / inverter are those coloured wire tube lights that case modders use in there PC cases.

I haven't been able to get any wire and circuit diagrams to make it work yet but I'm working on it. If any of you know more please post it ;)

Na won't be da same, you will have to waste a notebook and its slow.
