Using a FastRAD on a BCM50

Hi,

Is there a way to use a Fastrad or Rad on a BCM50 for either remote access or data backups just like with the Cics and Mics (Compact and Modular Norstar systems).

I know it sounds kind of dumb since Nortel is now providing this kind of feature with the Business Element Manager, but is isn't quite clear to me yet just how to remotely access a system for management and programming using the Element Manager.

Thanks for the info,
Lilmart

If you have ever connected to a BCM 400 it is the same .You get the desktop then you launch the EM. But you have to program the modem to answer and what line or DID.

The modem is built in, just connect your dialtone and set modem properties to answer the line you connected
exmaple....line 61

Ok,

I imagined Nortel would have tought up something of this nature. Can you give me anymore info as to where and how I should configure the internal modem to remotely manage a system?

Thanks

We use an ATA on the system to connect into the modem whenever we cannot get through a firewall to the customer's system. With AA answering you simply put the ext of the ATA into the dial string of your dial-up connection.

From your computer add a dial-up connection and enter the customer's number and the ATA extension, along with the BCM user name and password and you will be connected. Then open an Internet Explorer window and enter the IP address of the BCM. With IE 7 you will get a screen informing you of a security issue - press connect anyway and you will then see the BCM log-in screen and can do any programming required.

Is slow - especially the first time you remote in, but it does work and gives you alot of flexibility with your connection options.

Thanks a lot Searay2005,

That helps a lot. Only problem is if the customers doesn't use AA on his lines...

I'll make sur to try this one out.

The only thing you have to do is ask to be transferred to the ATA's extension...

And what is the rad's extension in a BCM50?

I know on Cics it's 218 by default, or F817. But I never heard of it or tested it yet for the BCM...

363 is the VM dn and 364 is the modem DN but if you are using an ATA it would be the ATA's extention.

Whoops. Sorry for the misinformation. I knew 363 was default for something.

On the BCM50, extention 364 for the modem, is it the same for rel 1.0 and 2.0?

I don't know Newkid,

I tries connecting to a BCM using the extension 364 as mentionned above using the NRU as for the CICS and It doesn't work. Using the phone connected to the modem, I contacted one of our customers using an AA, when it answered, I dialed 364. Instead of hearing the modem's typical sounds, It just said the extension is invalid.

Can anyone help me (us) with that please? Thanks,

Martin Duchesneau

You CAN NOT USE A RAD OR REMOTE UTILITIES on a BCM. You use the Element Manager. Again if you have connected to a BCM you get the desktop then launch the EM.But you need to program the modem under admin-utilities-modem.
