Is there any way for you to make reports in 8.5 and use the functions that are new in 8 and still view the reports properly in 7?

Nope. 7 will fall over because it doesn't recognise the function.

But if you use the distribution expert from 8 then they will be able to use that to view them correctly, right?

If you use the distribution expert, and be sure to distribute all your Dlls, the report should work, but I would test it.

Several (but not all) of the new functions in CR V8.5 are available as downloads on the crystal decisions website. Here is the link, sorry it is so long:

I was just wondering because I saw this on the crystal decisions site for earlier versions of crystal. Was that they said there were executable files that stored the functions. I was wondering if these were also included in the later versions. If so would these executables be able to be distributed to the earlier versions of the software and installed so the reports would run properly?

I believe so. I have been able to use several of the UFLs from crystal's website in several version of Crystal reports. Software Training and Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine
