Hi all

I've found that after changing a users name on OTM that it didn't change on the switch? So i went into LD 95 and changed the name manually, but still the last users surname is being added onto the new users name?
For example the old user was called, say, Mickey Mouse. He left due to creative differences and was replaced by Donald Duck. So in LD 95 i put Donalds name in place of Mickeys, but when you call the extension or prt the details in LD 20 it says the name is Donald Duck Mouse?
Can anyone help me?

Thanks
Tim

can you print the dnb/tnb in ld 20.. i do not do otm, to many simular problems.. if it's not just another otm glitch then in ld 95. prt cpnd.. you may see that des in included in names display... in that case des mouse is still in your micky mouse swtich... (joke) do you really work at the magic kingdom?

you can't answer des no in 95 without dropping all current last names from des and putting them in as names.. on one switch out of 100, des is used for dept, so the name donald duck could be followed by xxxxx for dept... the other 99 percent of the time des is just used by techs for pair or location... ie.. 'b6f4' building 6 fourth floor

I found it is best to out the original name in 95, then go back in and enter the replacement name as new. That eliminates the appearance of the original name on the new one.

john is that true in otm as well? with dynamic name allocation, we have to out the old name if the new name is longer.. so we do out the old name BUT i've never seen the switch remember a partial name post change.. so all i could think of is the display des command.. as i've posted a few time i don't do otm..

Thanks guys

My hatred of otm is growing from day to day. It was brought in so we'd have a GUI to use when they moved the telephone system over to the magic kingdoms I.T department. 1 day training on otm and off we go! So i'm trying to learn switch administration because otm is just plain naff - even the BT training guy asked us why we were bothering with it! I'm just lucky i found this site!
So my next novice question is....
How do i out the name in 95?

Thanks again! Gold stars all round. :)

I don't do OTM either. When I got to this site I found alot of John Smith Davis type displays when it should have only been John Smith.

I was told before that if the original name was longer it would do that, but I have found sometimes it doesn't overwrite even shorter names, so I out and then put the next name in new each time.

Both John's are correct- you must out the name in LD 95 and then do as a new. If not it will capture both names up to the max limit of 25 char.. Some times you can spell some crazy S### if you know what I mean. On the other hand OTM
to me died 5 yrs ago.

But how do i out the name?
Like this?...
LD 95
req: out(?)
type: name
and so on...?

thanks
Tim

It's ok now!. I grew some balls and just tried what i put in the post before. All done now.
Thanks for all your help and i've just realised the one useful thing about otm. I can remote desktop to the server from my PC and use the switch through otm! :D

cheers
Tim

i've had to train users on otm and told them the same thing.. you just bought a xxxxx.. two things about this forum... it helps to search prior to a question.. you would not have found the one you just asked.. and when you post IF you can paste the tnb or rdb etc along with switch type and rls.. neither of which were needed for that question.. just a few pointers to help you get the most out of a great site... here's my last hint on this one today

ld 95
prt
0
names all
shrt yes

capture that and you will have a list of all names...

Cheers John

I have copited the crash course to meridian programming now, that has tons of useful info, and will change it to keep it relevant to my company.
And thanks for the hint. You don't know how much i appreciate all this help.

Thanks
Tim

The best thing about OTM is it serves as a great remote point as you've already discovered.

Also, if you leave it in installation mode and schedule a station pull every day, if your switch goes completely ker-plunk, you only need to change your stations to NEW status and re-upload them to the PBX to restore them.

Not as efficent as a good EDD or Archive of DB but kind of a backup to the backup.
