My users have been complaining about painfully slow logins as well as slow network dependent applications. Our domain consists of a WAN with seven Netware 5.1 servers which store our database application, and seven Windows 2000 servers. Earlier this week we lost one of our Win2K servers to a blown power supply. The users at the location are still able to log into the network (how?), but they are experiencing crazy delays when they login and the network applications are very slow. They are using a DSL connection.
The Windows servers are exact replicas as far as the Active Directory is concerned. So my guess is that the users at the site with the dead server are still being able to connect because they are now using a remote PDC for authentication and that's also the reason why everything is so slow. I'm still learning, but is this the reason? When the server is repaired, will that solve the problems my users are having?
