Our Domain Controller (W2k Server SP1) in our mixed domain crashed for no apparent reason and since then (even after a number of planned reboots) it does not seem to be advertising itself as a DC because other machines complain that the DC cannot be reached. This has caused two significant problems on our system:
1) users cannot login
2) the trust between the W2K domain and the old NT domain is broken and we have file & print servers in the old domain which are now unreachable by users.
We have tried a restore of SYSVOL from our Veritas Backup but it fails. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Now fixed, for info...

The server had 2 NICs fitted and has always reported that a device with a duplicate IP address was visible on the network. We disabled one of the NICs and rebooted and everything started working and we were able to repair the trust.

The unexplained bit is why the dual NIC suddenly decided it would be a significant problem.

The primary reason was probably because 'NetBios over TCP/IP' was checked in both network card properties. This causes a Duplicate Name issue and you can see it by running "NBTSTAT -n" at the command prompt. You would have seen "CONFLICT" labeled on some of the entries of the table.
