Users can't delete from desktop

I have Windows 2003 Small Business Server with roaming profiles. Whenever a user deletes anything from their desktop or My Documents folder, it reappears next time they sign on.

How do I fix this?

Sounds like they are using mandatory profiles and not roaming profiles. Have you check that out?

Check the server. If the profiles have a .man extension you know they are mandatory.

Also, you don't mention what icons they are deleting. Are they items in the All Users folder which are then gettign copied back over?

I checked the user profile directory on the server. Each user has ntuser.dat and not ntuser.man in their folder.

So I don't think mandatory profiles are on.

What else could be wrong

See comment above about All Usrers folder. Are they trying to delete icons like IE and My Computer?

Just had another thought. Is it possible the user is logged on at another workstation? My thinking is that the profile is getting overwritten by a machine still logged on.

They are just trying to delete Word documents and the like.

No, the user is not logged onto any other computer.

Here is something I found searching the web. I don't know if the problem has been corrected in Windows 2003 Server.

Interesting article. I wonder what would happen if the user were to move the files first instead of delete them?

Try having the user move the files from their desktop over to a folder on the C drive. log Off/On and see if it still comes back. If it doesn't try deleting the file from the new location.
